After GoDaddy had a major email sending/receiving outage for an entire day and counting, I’ve been helping website and business owners switch to better alternatives. In case others have been searching for good private custom domain email hosting services in 2017, this list should help.
Although free, I’ve never had a problem when I tried out Zoho Mail. Their free plan is limited to one domain name and 25 email users. 5 GB of storage is assigned to each user with a 20 MB maximum attachment limit. Google Drive and Dropbox are perfect alternatives to use for attaching large files when sending emails, if you want some good ol’ free email hosting.
The most recommended email hosting for your domain names out there if you want to pay a pretty penny for it. Standard billing starts at $50 US per year for one user ([email protected]). The more user email addresses you purchase for your domain, the cheaper it will cost.

Another great option on the market for business owners is Rackspace Email. I have never personally used it myself, however, some of my colleagues have and they loved it. Pricing starts at $2 per user email address per month. It’s much cheaper than G Suite, however, you must purchase at least 5 mailboxes to use their service, which bumps up the price tag. On the bright side, you get a 14 day free trial.
FastMail is another alternative priced at $3 per month or $30 per year. Their recommended plan is priced the same as G Suite, however, you get 5 GB less than what G Suite offers. This is perfect if you wish to use their basic plan but want something cheaper than G Suite.
One of the cheapest private email hosting providers is definitely NameCheap, as its name suggests. The starter plan costs a very affordable $9.88 per year. There is a saying, you get what you pay for. With NameCheap, since you’re paying less, you’ll getting less. The $9.88 per year plan only gives you 3 GB of email storage and 1 GB of file storage. Zoho Mail’s free plan gives you more email storage, but the file storage is a major upgrade to it.
To end things off, there’s also Amazon WorkMail.
